Wow, that was, a lot. This close to my goal which is 100 movies a year! 100 MOVIES A YEAR ACHIEVED! Woah, what a long journey! Can't believe I actually made it! Some are good, some are best, the other just rather bad or so-so. But I'm glad I watched everything as it enriched my knowledge and also became the one form of entertainment I looked forward to by the weekend. I hope I could watch more movies in the next year (preferably new ones!). Funny thing is, this year I began to embrace that yes, I indeed am a movie junkie. Suddenly it dawned upon me that I have many movie tickets, downloaded films, finding myself watching movies on TV until morning comes... Should've realized that sooner!

So there you have it, the list of movies I watched in 2014. Cheers to amazing movies coming up on 2015!

title: rurouni kenshin: the legend ends (るろうに剣心 伝説の最期編)
country: japan
director: keishi ootomo
producer: -
release date: september 13th, 2014

having seen the previous two movies with such impeccable quality of on-screen adaptation, i must say that i had high hopes for the third installment of the trilogy. that's where it trapped me.

warning, reviews may contain spoiler.

the movie; for a standalone, it was great. for the end of the trilogy, it closes neatly. for an adaptation, it failed to deliver. so much potentials that could be brought up to this movie, but i guess the production team prefer to take a different approach which caused major makeover in the storyline. some things are basically eliminated and replaced for a more action-packed story, which is a plus for the movie. but also a fail one to majority of fans because it lacks the depth. personally, i think it could've been better to stick with the actual plot in manga. if they want to remove stuffs, they could've done it neatly.

the casts; i'm not going to lie. my main reason to continuously watch this trilogy was no other than, hold up, not takeru sato, but yosuke eguchi and yusuke iseya. both played my fave characters in the series -hajime saitou and aoshi shinomori- and to see them actually revive their characters so spendidly was such a pleasure. everyone played their role well to a T. it's a huge plus in the trilogy. so glad they managed to consistently play well throughout. some characters didn't manage to shine some characters changed but none too drastically from the original.

the story; now here's where everyone will be very divided. as the girl who grew up with the original manga and anime, the major makeover surely left some disappointment. i had a moment during the middle of the movie where i just feel like "oh crap, let's go out.". there still are some minor things that stick to the original. but few right things won't turn wrong into right. there really should be the long awaited final battle between kenshin and shishio. but instead, it became a four man against one. and poor yumi just die not-so-dramatically. not to mention there's a slight decline in portrayal of soujiro seta during the battle. quite disappointing.

but, say if i was the original moviegoer, which just happened to follow the whole trilogy, i'd be very pleased with the quality and plot. it is somewhat solid and very entertaining. still left some loopholes and "eh?", but it is due to the duration of the movie. now i hope i was.

the fashion + setting; very very pleasant to the eye. to see actual aoshi shinomori on screen with his majestic coat, the whole oniwabanshu in their attire (slight disappointment in color but nvm), the kimonos,  the uniform, juppon gatana (which had veeeeery brief appearance but managed to catch attention), everything. not to mention they put extra details to the casts' appearance. i do feel like they actually brought the manga to life. how delightful. also with the setting, it feels like i'm having time travel. kudos to their effort.

overall; if you've watched the first two, watch this. just for the sake of the finale. not anything haha i do recommend this to non-fan because in all, it's very aesthetically pleasing and great, story-wise. i think i'll have a love-hate relationship with it.

rating ; 6.9 out of 10

Few snaps from quick getaway at the island last weekend. Office outbond. In which I am convinced that I truly am an ocean soul that trapped in forest of concretes (and routinity). Three mere hours from Jakarta and I feel free (no, I'm not swirling and tumbling, I swear). Breeze of fresh air, deep blue ocean, white sand, no reception (istg I am so happy because it's truly a sign to enjoy my escapade to the fullest), and good food. Can't ask for anything anymore.

Well, maybe I want a comic book. Or two.

I miss it already.
