Less Blue

“The sun,--the bright sun, that brings back, not light alone, but new life, and hope, and freshness to man--burst upon the crowded city in clear and radiant glory. Through costly-coloured glass and paper-mended window, through cathedral dome and rotten crevice, it shed its equal ray.” Charles Dickens, Oliver Twist
it only took 1-1.5 hours to commute from home to workplace on my morning shift. work starts on 8.30am. plenty of time to catch the sunshine (and sunrise). however, my workplace is almost like a small box. secluded with minimal glimpse of sunshine. do the math with the freezing air con and rarely-cleaned-properly-carpeted floor. one by one of the workers in my department started to fall ill.

two weeks ago, i came to work seeing all the windows have been opened (but not the glass). finally the board started to take workers' health condition into consideration? i don't know. it was nice to see the sunshine seeping through the windows, though. it was pretty foggy but the sky was clear. and i am, less blue. sunshine does make a day better.

  1. I really hope that they are finally taking people's health into consideration. It really surprises me and makes me angry how many companies do not actually care very much about the well-being of their employees. :(

  2. i couldn't agree with you more, i really do feel depressed and less motivated to do anything during winter when it's cold and on rainy days, and when the sun comes out i feel like anything is possible and i can't be in a bad mood. it's good to hear your work is starting to let some sunlight in because i'm sure it'll make everyone a bit happier to work there.

  3. ikr there's something so magical about the sun in which sometimes you dreaded it, but kept looking for. they open the windows again today. things are warmer, so does my heart xx

  4. yeah, i think office really need to start how to pay attention to what workers need in order to get the best of them. it's all about business, yes. but then again, keeping your workers comfortable and healthy also give benefit to the company. ihopefully more office would realize this xx

  5. I agree entirely! :)
